Northanger Abbey (Illustrated)

Jane Austen has won legions of devoted fans in the 200 years since her death with her masterful parody of courtship and lightly moralizing critique of social mores in the early 19th century. Northanger Abbey was the first of her major novels to be completed, and though it was sold to a publisher in 1803, it was not released until 1817, months after her death. The tale of Gothic novel-obsessed Catherine Morland gives readers, particularly Austen fans that have only experienced her later works, an early point of reference by which to chart the sharpening of her famous wit.

The Skies Belong to Us: Love and Terror in the Golden Age of Hijacking

In an America torn apart by the Vietnam War and the demise of sixties idealism, airplane hijackings were astonishingly routine. Over a five-year period starting in 1968, the desperate and disillusioned seized commercial jets nearly once a week, using guns, bombs, and jars of acid. Some hijackers wished to escape to foreign lands, where they imagined being hailed as heroes; others aimed to swap hostages for sacks of cash. Their criminal exploits mesmerized the country, never more so than when the young lovers at the heart of Brendan I. Koerners The Skies Belong to Us pulled off the longest-distance hijacking in American history. A shattered Army veteran and a mischievous party girl, Roger Holder and Cathy Kerkow commandeered Western Airlines Flight 701 as a vague protest against the war. Through a combination of savvy and dumb luck, the couple managed to flee across an ocean with a half-million dollars in ransom, a feat that made them notorious around the globe. Koerner spent four years chronicling this madcap tale, which involves a cast of characters ranging from exiled Black Panthers to African despots to French movie stars. He combed through over 4,000 declassified documents and interviewed scores of key figures in the drama--including one of the hijackers, whom Koerner discovered living in total obscurity. Yet The Skies Belong to Us is more than just an enthralling yarn about a spectacular heist and its bittersweet, decades-long aftermath. It is also a psychological portrait of America at its most turbulent, and a testament to the madness that can grip a nation when politics fail.

Die wahren X-Akten: Das Buch der unerklärlichen Phänome, Vol. 2(X-Files Book of the Unexplained #2)

This pretty much follows on the same theme as the first volume - no real surprise there however that is its downfall in that - you can see if this book proved to be popular enough a whole series of them would follow chronicling not only the episodes but also the mysteries and thoughts behind the genesis of each episode. With that in mind the material feels more like an attempt to milk the fame of the series more than discuss the ideas of each storyline. Now it maybe that the style has not changed and it is in fact my view point after reading the first volume but the fact is the first volume was something different - this by its very nature is more of the same and with little new added. Dont get me wrong the subjects covered are all interesting but you do get the feeling that the TV series is creeping in more at the expense of original material.

Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role editor). Contributing authors names follow it.Note: WorldCat is an excellent resource for finding author information and contents of anthologies.

Cowls(Polly Devenish #2)

This sequel to A Sound of Crying has the same good characterization and interesting interpersonal dynamics as the first book (which was originally published in the UK as The House in the Woods), but lacks the supernatural element. Logical fastidious Frederick makes a return visit to his highly imaginative cousin Polly, and her large untidy family. The cousins get drawn in to a turf war with the tough next-door neighbor over possession of the key to a local abandoned house. Although Pollys (and her siblings) fear of ghosts is touched upon often, everybody has conveniently forgotten that in the previous book she actually experienced the presence of a real one.

Princess Bing Bong and the Birthday Party Blunders

Princess Bing Bong has some great ideas for her birthday party. They arent exactly typical, but its her birthday, so she can have things the way she wants them.I have a 5 yr old girl and 8 yr old boy. Both of them enjoyed the story. It was silly and goofy. My daughter wanted to know if there were more Princess books like this one. Even my son who is in to chapter books sat down with us and laughed a couple of times. Its light-hearted, full of silly illustrations, and teaches the message that being different is okay.I received this book free of charge from Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.
