Scorched(Scorched #1)

I enjoyed this book for the most part. I thought it was waaaay too long and it seemed to me that in order to stretch the length of the book the author stuck in one sex scene after another. If the characters werent eating or sleeping they were having sex. I just fast forwarded through all that as it was just boring and repetitive to me. I also had a hard time liking Zavier. I knew about 1/4 of the way in where this book was heading. I intensely dislike him. I hope Nico gets her HEA in the next book but NOT with him. No doubt in the next book Zage will have an epiphany and realize the error of his ways and do everything to get Nico back but I hope he doesnt. If I was the author I would send Nico on a worldwide trip with her camera and have her find a new love. I’m hoping that the author possibly intended for her reading audience to dislike Zage. I thought the writing was quite good overall and I will be buying the sequel when it comes out. Hoping it isn’t as drug out as this book. Less details, less sex please!

Stochastic Equations in Infinite Dimensions

  10/02/2012       freeeman77      0 Comments

Now in its second edition, this book gives a systematic and self-contained presentation of basic results on stochastic evolution equations in infinite dimensional, typically Hilbert and Banach, spaces. In the first part the authors give a self-contained exposition of the basic properties of probability measure on separable Banach and Hilbert spaces, as required later; they assume a reasonable background in probability theory and finite dimensional stochastic processes. The second part is devoted to the existence and uniqueness of solutions of a general stochastic evolution equation, and the third concerns the qualitative properties of those solutions. Appendices gather together background results from analysis that are otherwise hard to find under one roof. This revised edition includes two brand new chapters surveying recent developments in the area and an even more comprehensive bibliography, making this book an essential and up-to-date resource for all those working in stochastic differential equations.

Measuring National Innovation Performance: The Innovation Union Scoreboard Revisited

by
Frane Adam

This book provides a critical re-examination of the Innovation Union Scoreboard (IUS) as the main tool used by the European Commission and other policy-making bodies to measure national innovation capacity. Given that contemporary societies and economies are to a great extent characterised by the processes of production, dissemination and application (re-combination) of knowledge, the accurate monitoring and measurement of R&D efficiency and innovation performance on national, regional and firm level are of outmost importance. The contextual reconstruction of the model of indicators used by IUS reveals that the accuracy and validity of measurement are not satisfactory, and that substantial modifications of metrics are needed to achieve stronger theoretical significance and policy-relevance. In this work, the -epistemic turn- is emphasised and offered as an alternative, namely in the sense of the shift from a mechanicist-positivist orientation toward a more reflective and contextual post-positivist approach.
